💼 Business
A smart, critical-thinking essay by excellent smart, critical-thinking essay writer Evgeny Morosov. He talks about how Web3 is really not that different from Web2 (if not a bit worse) and how - by touting itself as a decentralised utopia but in reality being aggressively and shamelessly capitalist - it’s pretty much ruined itself already. So if you love real decentralisation and hate dumb NFT’s, this one is for you. Link.
✏️ Design
One of our team posted this and we all had a good debate about the pros, cons and challenges of creating this system. The first-of-it’s-kind navigation app to guide users indoors, instead of just outdoors. So Citymapper for inside. As an upgrade for the user experience and for accessibility, it’s a great idea. Logistically, quite difficult. Interested to see how this develops. Link.
🖥️ Technology
Some insights into the Prime Video JavaScript app. After a year, their investment in WebAssembly and “37,000 lines of Rust code” has led to “significantly improved performance, stability, and CPU consumption and reduced memory utilization”. Link.
Meta, Microsoft and Nvida have all recently announced they are building AI-powered ‘supercomputers’. But what we’re really interested in are the hypernetworks researchers are building that make it much easier to train neural networks to build better neural networks. Link.
🕹️ Cool stuff
Shock, we’re a software company *literally called Eli5* that likes Reddit. This thread of legendary Reddit stories is peak nostalgic Reddit. A broad collection of nice, funny but also a few not so nice dotted around, so probably NSFW. Link.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
