💼 Business
For some reason (global pandemic) I’d completely forgotten about the Winter Olympics 2022 until I found out yesterday that Jamaica has a bobsled team for the first time in 24 years (!) and Cool Runnings is going to happen IRL (!!). The bit of news you might have missed are the major flaws in the Winter Olympics app. MY2022, made for attendees of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, has a flaw where the encryption protecting users’ voice audio and file transfers can be easily sidestepped. Which equals access to super personal info such as health customs forms that contain passport details, demographic information, your voice recordings, medical and travel history. Server responses can also be spoofed, allowing an attacker to display fake instructions to users. Bit sus China. Tl:Dr - don’t use the Winter Olympics app. Link.
Matt Rickard’s 2022 predictions for tech-things. From NFT’s, Roblox and remote development, to machine learning, Web2 and the unbundling and re-bundling of software developer tasks. Really good and - my favourite thing of all - concise. Link.
✏️ Design
75 Tiny Little Web-Based Tools for Web Designers. A really good collection of new(ish) and free web-based apps you can easily bookmark. Designed to save you time on those annoying small web design tasks you have to do here and there. Link.
🖥️ Technology
Article title of the week goes to this one: Make debugging suck less. Keep a logbook. It’s a good idea and we’re open to ideas on how to organise this. Since putting it in an issue would be hard to look for over all repositories. So, to any devs that read this and want to tell us how to run our business better, you have my email. Link.
A cool tool to optimize SQL queries. Link.
🕹️ Cool stuff
Have you ever wondered how GPS actually works? Yes? Then this is the article for you. No? It’s actually really interesting so you should read it anyway. Or at least skim it like I did because they go in on the detail and I’m not as smart as our dev team. Link.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
