Welcome to our 24 new subscribers! I have to apologise if you didn’t receive our last newsletter. Our forms usually split email addresses by enquiries and subscriptions but decided not to do that for a while.
This is our bi-weekly newsletter of interesting stuff in business, design, and tech. If there is something you’d like more of or things we could be doing better then get in touch with lauren@eli5.io.

💼 Business
I’m a big fan of Greg Isenberg on Twitter. Greg is an expert in building and selling startups, is an advisor to Reddit and previously TikTok, in addition to being a venture partner at Indicator Ventures. This is a podcast from last month where he collates all of this thinking into one hour - including his thoughts on decentralization, community building and Web3. Link.
✏️ Design
18 designs that made a big impact in 2021 - from Fast Company’s 2021 Innovation by Design Awards. Includes the winner, finalists and honorable mentions so there are some really interesting new things to check out. Link.
🖥️ Technology
Some React-heavy shares this week, starting with How to use React useReducer hook like a pro. Another native way to manage your state in React. Link. ⠀
But if you prefer useState for doing code reviews, this article has 7 tips that can help you avoid common pitfalls. Link.
🕹️ Cool stuff
Ironically, by spending time on Twitter this week, I’ve landed on a piece that’s all about how bad things like Twitter can be. This thread and podcast link at the end explains how common dopamine addiction is (turns out two of the worst activities are video games and social media, oops) and makes a good argument for including moments of boredom in your day to ‘reset your baseline’. Link.
And in case you didn’t already hear about it, this hamster is better at trading crypto than basically everybody. Link.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
